FAQs
Learn about our program. If something matters to your decision that isn't listed, just ask us.
Are these real patents?
Yes. Modulus licenses real, issued U.S. and international patents, fully verifiable through standard patent diligence channels. Specific identifiers and full prosecution histories are confirmed under NDA during the licensing process and made available to your investors' or acquirers' counsel on request.
How can your patents apply to so many AI products?
Modulus AI inventions were early and broadly applicable, so the portfolio covers core workflows used across many modern products, including summarization, content processing, representation, and related AI-driven analysis. Breadth alone doesn't mean your product is covered. We run a documented coverage analysis against your specific product before any license issues, and your counsel can review the patents and that analysis under NDA before you commit.
How do I know my product qualifies?
Click Get Started and fill out the application. Our system will analyze your application and review coverage before any license is issued. Most applicants get an automated answer within minutes. If your current product doesn't qualify, our system will identify what would be required.
What if I get acquired?
Licenses transfer to the acquirer for the acquired product line, subject to standard program terms including a joinder by the acquirer. We've designed transfer mechanics specifically because acquisition is one of the main reasons our licensees value the program.
Will this hold up in an acquisition?
Yes. Acquisition diligence is more rigorous than fundraising diligence, and the program is designed for it. The diligence pack, the coverage analysis, the chain of title, and the assignment mechanics are all built to survive serious M&A IP review.
Will this hold up in investor diligence?
Yes, and we've designed it to. Sophisticated investors who do IP diligence will want to verify the patents, the license terms, and the coverage analysis. We provide a complete NDA-gated diligence pack directly to your investors' counsel on request.
Can I cancel?
Yes, you may cancel at any time, for any reason. No questions asked. If you only need a license for a single month, that's perfectly fine.
Are you litigating with these patents?
Modulus is an operating AI company licensing its own patent portfolio through a commercial program. We do not run mass demand-letter campaigns or pursue companies simply because they decline to license.
Approved licensees receive documented coverage for their approved activities during the license term, and Modulus centrally manages the portfolio, category reservations, and patent strategy.
What if I challenge the patents?
A Modulus license is a commercial relationship granting access to the portfolio. Like most licensing agreements, it doesn't continue if the licensee challenges the same patents they're licensing, and the license and its category reservation may be terminated.
What's the legal foundation?
Patent licensing is a standard, well-established commercial practice. The program is operated under experienced patent counsel and complies with applicable international laws.
Why don't you publish patent numbers?
Patent identifiers, claim charts, prosecution histories, chain-of-title documents, and coverage analysis are confirmed under NDA during the licensing process, which is standard practice in commercial patent licensing. Issued patents are public records; the NDA governs which patents apply to your specific product and the coverage analysis behind that, not the existence of the patents. Qualified applicants and their counsel receive the patent numbers and full diligence materials to verify independently before signing.
Does Modulus acquire or sublicense patents?
Yes. Modulus actively acquires foundational patent families covering AI and sublicenses patents from other owners as part of expanding the portfolio. If you hold AI-related IP and are interested in working with us, contact us to learn more.
Why have I never heard of this kind of program before?
Because it's new. Patent licensing has historically been bilateral, expensive, and adversarial. Subscription Patent Licensing is a new category. Modulus is the first program to operate this way, with a real foundational patent family, accessible terms, and a public commitment to voluntary inbound licensing only.
What is Modulus IP?
Modulus IP is a voluntary Subscription Patent Licensing program operated by Modulus Global, Inc. The program licenses issued Modulus patents to qualified companies whose approved products are covered by the licensed patent rights. Licenses may include app-specific category reservation, approved patent-backed marketing language, documented coverage analysis, and diligence materials for counsel, investors, acquirers, and enterprise customers.
What do third-party company references mean?
Third-party company references on the site indicate patent citation or reference activity in patent filings only. They do not imply endorsement, sponsorship, affiliation, licensing, validation, commercial relationship, or admission of infringement.
What does app-specific category reservation mean?
App-specific category reservation means that, once a category position is reserved for an approved licensed product, the same Modulus patent position is not offered to direct competitors for the same use case during the active license term. This is a commercial license term tied to the approved product, use case, category, and agreement.
Can licensees use patented language?
Yes. Approved licensees may use authorized patent-backed language for covered products and approved activities under the license agreement.
How is patent coverage determined?
Coverage is determined by the applicable patent claims, the specific product, the license terms, and confidential coverage analysis. Patent coverage is evaluated as part of the licensing process for qualified prospective licensees.
How are patent strength claims supported?
Statements about patent strength are based on issued patent status, prosecution history, third-party patent analytics, international examination findings, citation and reference activity, active prosecution, and diligence materials available to qualified parties under NDA. Prospective licensees and their counsel are encouraged to perform their own diligence on the provided patent numbers before licensing.
Are there any important notices?
Company references indicate patent citation or reference activity in patent filings only, not endorsement, affiliation, sponsorship, licensing, validation, commercial relationship, or admission of infringement. Patent identifiers, claim charts, and diligence materials are provided to qualified applicants and counsel under NDA. This is a voluntary licensing program. There are no legal demands. Marketing using "patented" is legally permissible under a patent license when a product's features align with the patented claims.
Can incubators or venture studios license for future spinouts?
Standard licenses do not include sublicensing or automatic spinout coverage. Incubators, accelerators, and venture studios can request a custom portfolio license, but each covered company and product must be reviewed and approved separately for coverage and category availability.
