Building the future of
patent licensing.
Modulus is redefining patent licensing for the AI era. We combine three decades of applied AI with a commercial model built around voluntary licensing, monthly access, category reservation, and real patents from real R&D.
Our team includes IP counsel, engineers, researchers, and operators who believe patent licensing should be accessible, defensible, and useful to the companies building the next generation of AI products.
Our heritage.
Modulus is part of a family of companies with a history spanning three decades. Our teams have partnered with NASA, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, IBM, and thousands of corporate, government, and academic organizations worldwide.
That foundation in high-performance computing, applied AI, data science, and mission-critical systems is what produced our foundational AI patent family. Now Modulus is focused on making those patents accessible for the next generation of AI products.

What it means to work here.
Modulus is privately funded and built for long-term independence. We do not chase growth metrics that compromise the integrity of the program, the portfolio, or the companies we serve.
You will work with IP counsel who care about precision, engineers building systems that ship, and colleagues who take pride in doing serious work without unnecessary politics or bureaucracy.
Remote-friendly. Competitive compensation. Equity participation available for key roles.
Open positions.
If you do not see the exact role but believe you would be a strong fit, reach out.
Patent Counsel
Support legal review of the licensing program, refine standard agreements, and serve as a point of contact for licensee counsel during diligence. This is strategic, substantive work with founders, in-house counsel, and outside firms.
Requirements: J.D. and active U.S. bar admission. Patent bar strongly preferred. 3+ years of patent licensing, transactional IP, or related experience. Comfortable in commercial, non-litigation contexts.
Patent Engineer
Support product-to-claim mapping, coverage documentation, and technical review of AI systems. You will work with Modulus engineers and counsel to understand licensee products and help build scalable claim-charting tools.
Requirements: Technical degree or equivalent experience in CS, EE, AI, or related fields. Hands-on experience with modern AI systems. Patent or IP background helpful but not required.
Licensing Account Representative
Guide prospective licensees from intake to executed agreement. You will triage applications, coordinate coverage review, explain tiers and terms, and keep the process clear, accurate, and low-friction.
Requirements: Account management, inside sales, or customer success background. Comfortable with legal documents, payment systems, and CRM tooling. Detail-oriented and customer-focused.
AI Scientific Researcher
Advance the applied AI research behind the Modulus portfolio. You will explore model architectures, summarization, retrieval, evaluation methods, and new invention opportunities tied to real products.
Requirements: Advanced degree preferred in machine learning, NLP, or a related field. Publication record or equivalent research portfolio. Strong applied experience with modern LLM and deep-learning systems.
Business Development, Strategic Accounts
Lead conversations with enterprise AI companies, public companies, hyperscalers, and strategic partners requiring custom license structures. You will coordinate with IP counsel and manage high-value licensing relationships.
Requirements: Enterprise sales or BD background in IP, infrastructure, AI, or related markets. Relationships with general counsel, IP leads, or BD teams at AI companies strongly preferred.
